Quick-Start User Guide

This quick-start guide will tell you everything you need to know to get Scrunch set up and working for your brand.

Updated over a month ago

This guide walks you through the essential steps to start monitoring your brand's AI visibility in Scrunch.

1. Start in the Context tab

Add Your Brand and Website(s)

Go to the Context tab.

Enter your main website domain. Scrunch will automatically track all subdomains, so you don't need to list them individually.

Add any alternate domains or subdomains you want to monitor specifically.

Customize Your Brand Context

Review the auto-generated brand description and edit it to match your positioning.

Add or refine your competitors to ensure accurate competitive benchmarking.

Define customer personas to organize prompts by audience type.

Set up key topics to categorize prompts by product line, use case, or campaign.

2. Add Prompts

Navigate to the Prompts tab to review any auto-generated starter prompts and add additional questions your customers might ask AI platforms about your category.

Check if Scrunch has already generated starter prompts for your new brand—these give you an immediate baseline for monitoring.

Review the 5 starter prompts that Scrunch automatically generated for you, then add 5-15 more high-priority prompts that represent your specific use cases.

Tag prompts by persona, topic, or campaign to organize your data.

Choose which AI platforms to monitor for each prompt (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, etc.).

3. Review Your Dashboard

Once your prompts start running, visit the Dashboard to see your brand's AI visibility metrics.

Track Brand Presence (how often you're mentioned), Position (where you rank), and Sentiment (how you're described).

Compare your performance against competitors.

Filter by persona, topic, or platform to drill into specific segments.

4. Explore Citations

Go to the Citations tab to see which pages are being cited in AI responses.

Review which of your own pages are being referenced most often.

Identify third-party sources that mention your brand.

Look for content gaps where competitors are being cited instead of you.

5. Run a Site Audit

Navigate to the Site Audit tool to check how AI-friendly your website is.

Review access controls to ensure AI bots can crawl your content.

Check content delivery to confirm pages load properly for AI systems.

Evaluate content quality to see if your pages are optimized for AI retrieval.

6. Monitor AI Bot Traffic

If you've connected your CDN or hosting platform, visit the Agent Traffic tab to see which AI bots are visiting your site.

Track volume trends over time.

Identify your most-accessed pages.

Review recent bot requests to understand what AI platforms are retrieving.

7. Track AI Referral Traffic

Connect your Google Analytics account to see how much traffic AI platforms are sending to your site.

Monitor referrals from ChatGPT, Perplexity, and other AI tools.

Compare AI referral performance to traditional search traffic.
