Opening the Entity Picker
The entity picker in the Explorer lets you select multiple entities across all three categories: your brand, your competitors, and your sub-brands. Click the entity selector dropdown at the top of the query panel to open the grouped multi-select picker.
Each category appears as its own section with checkboxes. You can pick as many entities as you need for your analysis.
Selecting Multiple Entities
Check the boxes next to individual entities to add them to your comparison. The picker stays open while you make selections, so you can choose entities from different categories in a single session.
Quick selection shortcuts
At the top of each category section, you'll see an All option (for example, All competitors or All sub-brands). Selecting this shortcut adds every entity in that category to your comparison in one click.
Use these shortcuts when you want to analyze your entire portfolio at once or benchmark against all tracked competitors.
Combined vs. Separate Mode
Once you've selected multiple entities, the Explorer offers two ways to visualize them:
Separate mode: Plots each selected entity as its own line on the chart. Use this mode to compare individual performance side-by-side.
Combined mode: Merges all selected entities into a single line showing their pooled presence. If any selected entity appears in a response, the combined line counts it as present. Use this mode to measure total market footprint across your brand, sub-brands, and competitors as one unified presence.
Toggle between modes using the dropdown near the chart controls. Combined mode works best for presence-based metrics (mention rate, position). Separate mode is better for sentiment, Share of Voice, and any analysis where you need to see each entity's distinct contribution.
Combined mode: When multiple entities are selected, combined mode ORs their presence over a shared observation base. One line = pooled presence across all selections. Rates only - averages and Share of Voice metrics cannot be meaningfully combined across different entity grains.
Cross-Grain Combinations
The Explorer supports mixing entities from different levels of analysis in a single comparison. For example, you can combine:
Your brand + one or more sub-brands
Your brand + specific competitors
Sub-brands + competitors
In combined mode, cross-grain selections produce a single pooled presence line. In separate mode, each entity (regardless of grain) gets its own line, letting you compare a sub-brand's performance directly against a competitor's brand-level metrics.
Persistence Across Dashboards
Your entity selections persist when you save a chart to a dashboard. When you return to the dashboard and open a saved tile back in the Explorer, all selected entities and the visualization mode (combined or separate) are restored exactly as you configured them.
This makes it easy to build repeatable competitive comparisons or portfolio snapshots that update with fresh data each time you view them.
Common Use Cases
Competitive benchmarking
Select your brand plus three competitors in separate mode to plot four distinct lines. Compare mention rates, sentiment, or position trends side-by-side over the same time period.
Portfolio analysis
Use the All sub-brands shortcut in separate mode to see how each sub-brand performs individually, or switch to combined mode to measure your total sub-brand footprint as a single presence metric.
Market share analysis
Combine your brand and all your sub-brands in combined mode to calculate your unified market presence. Then add competitors in separate mode to see how your pooled presence stacks up against theirs.
